I basically do two kinds of publishing. First, as a professor, I conduct research and write up the results for scholarly journals. Second, as a musician and teacher educator, I write “practitioner pieces,” targeted for musicians wanting to maximize their growth and teachers seeking to refine their instructional methods. It’s something of a professional crusade of mine to show that research is, in fact, very useful for improving current practices in music performance and education.
